Job Description

The PSE Unit Manager works under the supervision of the Development Director and supervises the PSE team members. S/he is the designated focal point for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of all activities GERES undertakes directly or indirectly with the private sector, from rural micro-entrepreneurs to international impact investors. 
 
The Private Sector Engagement (PSE) unit was created in 2013 as part of the Development Department of GERES South-East Asia (GSEA) to mainstream at each stage of the project cycle an economic expertise and entrepreneurship culture. PSE unit equips the program teams with economic insights at all stages of the project cycle, and implements field activities to anticipate, assess, maximize and valorize economic spillovers and impacts generated by GSEA interventions. 
 
Specific activities falling in the scope of the PSE unit Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Team Management: ensure all team members are clear with missions and assignments, facilitate team building, ensure well-being of team members, control and guarantee the quality of team deliverables, plan and monitor team workloads; 
  • Manage the budget of PSE unit and secure funding to cover costs and finance development; 
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the PSE service offer: assess needs and opportunities, initiate partnerships, propose new solutions to GERES private beneficiaries in terms of access to finance, explore innovative funding opportunities for GERES development projects, ensure thematic intelligence, share knowledge with other GERES colleagues in the world and consolidate GERES global approach on this thematic. 

 

Job Requirements

  • Master degree in economics, development economics, business management, finance / audit, marketing, project management; 
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in managing and implementing international projects, either in the private, public or civil society sector. While good knowledge of the development sphere (its methodologies & tools, its stakeholders, public and private financers, and trends) is a strong plus, priority is given to applicants with proven track-record on enterprise financing, growth and support; 
  • Previous international experience in an emerging or developing country required. 
  • A demonstrated willingness to continuous learning 
  • Good interpersonal skill, problem solving oriented and driven by results; 
  • Ability to translate in an efficient and simple way economics and business concepts, tools and literature to a non-specialist audience; 
  • Strong interest to understand the life and constraints of the poorest, the risk they face and their aspirations. Ability to learn from observation and question one’s own preconceived idea; 
  • Passionate on development economics with a focus on how entrepreneurship can contribute to poverty alleviation; 
  • Excellent communication (written and presentational) skills required; 
  • Flexible, willing to adapt and take on new ideas; 
  • Commitment to the mandate and values of GERES; 
  • Enjoys working in a multicultural environment; 
  • Mature and professional attitude and approach; 
  • Proficiency in English essential, good command of French and/or khmer is a plus; 
  • Very comfortable with standard office software
