Job Description

PEFC International is currently recruiting an Officer, with expertise on certification and supply chain management, to support PEFC’s expanding profile of work in Southeast Asia. Their main objective is the engagement and support of the private sector and certification bodies to deliver PEFC certificates. The consultant will work along with the PEFC South East Asia Development Officer and the PEFC International office based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Specifically, the Officer will contribute to the following PEFC projects:
Ø  Asia Promotions Initiative: works to raise awareness, build capacity and encourage the uptake of PEFC certification throughout Asia. Already, PEFC Asia Promotion offices exist in Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City, and PEFC National members are located in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The Officer will increase PEFC’s presence and availability throughout Southeast Asia and support the ongoing implementation of the Asia Promotions Initiative's regional work plan, in collaboration with PEFC International, members and partners.

Ø  Expanding Chain of Custody Globally: current pilot projects are ongoing in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, and there is potential to expand in new locations. While projects are implemented by local organisations, international partners and/or PEFC members, the Officer will contribute to developing the demand and the engagement of companies in the timber sector. As innovation and cooperation are fundamental aspects of expanding forest certification into new areas, the Officer will support PEFC’s active contribution during project implementation.
More broadly throughout the region, the Officer will support PEFC’s expanding profile and stakeholder network by strengthening partnerships and relationships with key private sector associations and organisations, as well as delivering training and supporting the building of capacity.

Job Requirements

  • University degree(s) in Forestry, Agribusiness, Supply Chains Management, Natural Resources Management or related studies;
  • A proven track record in supporting communication and stakeholder engagement efforts in Asia, and if possible, in forestry supply chains;
  • Extensive knowledge of natural resources certification;
  • Implementing or auditing Chain of Custody certification a strong advantage;
  • Project management and supporting ongoing fundraising efforts;
  • Ability to facilitate training, organise and run seminars. Flexible, pro-active and dynamic. Ability to work autonomously, but in close connection with PEFC International. Fluent in English.

Conditions: Potential for a contract extension may exist but is dependent upon performance and funding availability. The ideal time commitment is estimated at 22 days per month, but the specific terms can be agreed upon with the ideal candidate. The Officer must be based in the Southeast Asia region (although specific location is flexible), and willing to travel throughout the region.
