Job Description

Summary of position
Our client delivering a ultimate river cruising experience is looking for  its Cruise director. The Cruise Director will be responsible for providing a unique cruising experience to customers by managing the cruise in an efficient manner and delivering a quality cruising experience that meets or exceeds expectations, and assist in managing key products and report to management on issues relating to the performance of that cruise.
Main Duties and responsibilities
  • Work effectively by cooperating with the cruising company staff in being the Client's ambassador and ensuring strict service standards are adhered to and guests receive this unique experience,
  • Manage the day to day activities of the cruise in an efficient and timely manner,
  • Pro-actively planning & confirming forward itinerary arrangements,
  • Provide interesting, informative and entertaining commentary, in addition to information provided by other persons or tools, and other appropriate on-cruise entertainment for customers,
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the cruise,
  • Apply trouble-shooting skills to resolve incidents & issues that may arise,
  • Ensure the complete comfort & satisfactions of the guests, at all times,
  • Develop relationships with contracted Ground Operators & suppliers,
  • Providing Quality Control reports to Operations Management,
  • Take every opportunity to promote the Client's tours and other tour destinations.

Embarkation Duties:
  • Ensure all Branding & Meet & Greet equipment is in place,
  • Co-ordinate with the all on ground suppliers to ensure the smooth operation of transfers,
  • Provide informal introductions, local maps, information on attractions, special events, while onboard with the customers, etc.,
  • Facilitate the pre embarkation program, ship transfers, and check-in,
  • Assist with any arrival problems,
  • Act as the direct line of contact between the ground operations and Client's head office,
  • Be prominent to all guests and join passengers for social time and questions on deck.

During the Cruise:  
  • Ensure the candidate is well known to all key staff onboard,
  • Help facilitate onboard Welcome Orientation with the Resident Manager,
  • Review the cruise itinerary activities for each day, on the day prior, with the Resident Manager and Local guides,
  • Attend all the different shore excursions to become familiar with the product and be proactive in advising if you believe there can be beneficial changes to content or operations,
  • Facilitate and resolve all issues referring to all customer services issues from cabin changes to lost luggage to emergency hospital visits etc.,
  • Liaise between guests and appropriate ship personnel,
  • Assist Shipís staff to ensure all guests have returned from shore excursions,
  • Provide commentary to groups of passengers, where relevant and appropriate to enhance their understanding of the regional history & culture,
  • Ensures all VIP treatments, special requests and special occasions are met,
  • Liaise with the Resident Manager in organizing special functions i.e. cocktail socials, entertainment activities,
  • Facilitate special dietary requests, handicap needs, etc.,
  • Assist with all embarkation and disembarkation processes throughout the cruise,
  • Complete daily reports covering all events relating to the cruise. 

Disembarkation Duties:
  •  Check and confirm all transfers and ongoing arrangements with the suppliers,
  • Review and assist with guest settlement of accounts,
  • Maintain a high profile on the days prior to disembarkation, ensure guests are fully aware of their ongoing arrangements,
  • Facilitate luggage labeling for specific transfers & extension departures.

Job Requirements

Essential skills/Qualifications
  • Knowledge of history and culture within the Indochina Region,
  • Fluent English both written and verbal,
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills and experience,
  • Strong knowledge and previous experience on the cruising and tourism industry, in particular, group touring,
  • Previous tour or cruise directing experience,
  • Problem solving, organization, time management skills are imperative,
  • Working knowledge of MS Office in particular Word / Excel. 

Desirable experience and other considerations.
  • Already be based in SE Asia,
  • Other language skills would be advantageous,
  • Be able to commit to dates well in advance,
  • Be prepared that for the first 12 months the work will be sporadic,
  • Understand that you are not a crew member and must respect ships policies,
  • Be prepared to handle cultural challenges,
  • Be prepared for long days before after and onboard,
  • Sound knowledge and experience of other Client's destinations to International cruising experience,
  • Previous International Extended Cruising or Touring experience,
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with large groups &/or public speaking.
